Command prompt, not working?!

Hmm, after some trouble with ctrl/alt/delete not working, which is fixed up now, i thought my computer was back to its usual stable platform, but no.
Another problem arises.

Start->Run->"cmd"

Command prompt used to come up, with an error about a 16bit MS-DOS Subsystem, i searched on here, and found a person wiht a similar problem, leading me to a site with a program "Xp-fix" for this problem, ran it.

No more error message, but, even worse, when i type cmd in, it opens, and shuts itself about 1/2 a second after , please dont tell me i shouldnt have run the xp-fix program, as i realised after it was probalby a thing i should have looked into before.

1) Version of XP - XP 5.1, build 2600
2) Hardware setup - Pentium 4 (3.0gHz), 1024megs RAM, nvidia 5700, P4 Titan 865PE mobo.
5) Any antivirus, firewall software you are running - mcaffee antivirus, windows firewall and mcaffee firewall.

You, have single handedly, fixed two problems, with such easy things to do, which i had no idea about.
I thank you very very very very muchly!
(if you didnt get it, both times you suggested things, they worked, and took about 5 seconds to do)

Thanks once again.
Ben

command prompt not working

I am having a similar problem. Except that when I try to open command prompt, either using [start] [run] or by using [start] [programs] [accessories] [command prompt] everything on my screen except the wallpaper disappears for a moment, and then everything on the desktop reappears. The command prompt window does not open even for a brief time.

Do you recommend the same remedy as you did to flasher?

Thanks
