Unhappy Insufficient memory

My XP Home computer crashed. I tried reinstalling everything. I'm getting an "insufficient memory error" at boot up. It tells me to quuit some programs, but there are none running because there is nothing on the machine yet. The bios is correct. I'm running a 1.33G AMD with 256 memory. It's an HP Pavilion 7000 series. Help please.

Bootup into safe-mode and increase ur page-file..."O", and do the obvious, re-seat ur memory sticks.

When you first turn the machine on check to see if it counts all your memory on the bios screen - if it does not then it might mean that your memory is knackered.

How far does it get booting? - does it get into windows at all or not?

You've not by any chance played around with your virtual memory settings in Windows have you?

And as suggested, you could try taking out your memory stick, blowing in the slot to clear it, and re-seating the mem stick, and see if that fixes it......
