Cannot rename/delete/copy random files "Access is denied"
Running Win XP SP2 with have a slave 160-GB internal drive, D:, that is formatted NTFS (to utilize all of the 160 GB).
Randomly, I will not be able to rename/delete/copy files on this volume due to "Access is denied" error message. Once this sympton hits a file, it will not go away.
This occurs with some files within a directory, but not all of them.
It would seem that an application has "hold" of the files (vs. a permissions issue), but the behavior continues even after a reboot. I tried using the moveonboot utility, but it could not access the files either.
The first time this occured I was able to fix it (for the file I was having trouble with), by running chkdsk on the affected volume (D). This approach has not worked since that first time.
So far, I have only noticed this behavior with MP3 files...but these are the files that I use 95% of the time so I don't know for sure if it only affects MP3 files.
Any insight appreciated...thx.
