we need to check which of the devices are enabled, if both are there will be a conflict, in Control panel > sound & audio devices > Hardware tab > if both devices shown select one > properties > general tab > is the one you selected shown at top > at bottom under Device usage is "use this device (enable) "selected > properties Tab > expand each device , do they all show the same, Driver tab > is the same device shown. If they are then leave as set . Then go back and check the other device follow path and on General Tab at bottom select to disable this device.
check if you have sound, if not go back and select the other device and go through the same procedure to enable.
Write down everything you do, so you can follow the path.

Hope this helps

we need to check which of the devices are enabled, if both are there will be a conflict, in Control panel > sound & audio devices > Hardware tab > if both devices shown select one > properties > general tab > is the one you selected shown at top > at bottom under Device usage is "use this device (enable) "selected > properties Tab > expand each device , do they all show the same, Driver tab > is the same device shown. If they are then leave as set . Then go back and check the other device follow path and on General Tab at bottom select to disable this device.
check if you have sound, if not go back and select the other device and go through the same procedure to enable.
Write down everything you do, so you can follow the path.

Hope this helps [/quote]

This device cannot start. (Code 10)thats what it says on the C-Media Ac97 audio devise

elenor, just a suggestion, but have you tried Windows Update, when you get there choose Custom and in the left pane see if anything is shown for Hardware( Optional ) look to see if a sound driver is shown.

If that does not work try the driver from Packard Bell support again it's here http://support.packardbell.com/uk/my...294420072#show
but this time when you install can you turn off your Antivirus programe.

As always set a SYSTEM RESTORE POINT just in case

Hope this helps
