I don't seem to have sound on my computer. n.n; That is, from the speakers anyway, My computer, the actual PC, makes a beeping noise once in a while when I start up. Anyway, recently, I upgraded my OS to WinXP, everything seems fine except I don't have any sound. When I checked the device manager, under Other Devices, Multimedia Audio Controller had a big yellow question mark in front of it.

I tried to uninstall it in safe mode, and then restart it normally, it didn't work. When I got back on, I tried to reinstall it, but the computer couldn't find the software for the controller. u.u; So...help?
elenor, just a suggestion, but have you tried Windows Update, when you get there choose Custom and in the left pane see if anything is shown for Hardware( Optional ) look to see if a sound driver is shown.

If that does not work try the driver from Packard Bell support again it's here http://support.packardbell.com/uk/my...294420072#show
but this time when you install can you turn off your Antivirus programe.

As always set a SYSTEM RESTORE POINT just in case

Hope this helps
Still no luck i reinstalled the driver you mentioned. And i have new speakers but still i'm not getting any sound from the speakers, when i connected the new speakers i head a crackling sound from the speakers, but thats it . nothing .

What is the make and model of your comp, if you don't know download Belarc and post back with results. Get it here http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Hope this helps

From the specs on your board, the sound is an AC'97 and as Realtek do your Graphics and Lan it's a good bet they do the sound driver, get it here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

Set a System Restore Point just in case

Hope this helps

Something to look at...

Just in case...

After you download the drivers, you might want to check and see if your soundcard is engaged.

I had the same problem as everyone else on here but I didn't do anything to my PC, my sound just disappeared as it ws working fine a couple hours before I ran into the problem.

I was reading what Bookworm was asking for, noticed there was someone with an HP PC so I went to the link she gave, ran a syten scan from the site, dowloaded the driver, restarted my PC but still had no sound. I knew this just by looking at the Sounds and Audio Devices in my Control Panel, it said there was no audio device so I went into my device manager and the soundcard had a little red x on it. Clicked on properties and it was not engaged. I engaged it and BAMMMM! It was music to my ears. LOL!

I noticed some people said they still didn't have any sound after dowloading the drivers, so maybe that's all you need to do...hopefully.

Hope that helps some people on here.

Same problem

Oke, i have the same problem, doesn't recognize the multimedia audio controller

Before I installed a fresh windows xp on my pc, i runned sandra (something like belarc) and it said under multimedia audio controller:
intel 82801eb ich5 ac '97

as my motherboard is a soltek SL-86MIP-L, i installed the driver for audio from the official website.

But still no luck, then after reading all of these posts i released that i had to install the intel chipset driver first(also downloaded it from the official site)

Si I did and installed the audio driver again, still no luck.

Then i installed 3 other audio drivers from 3 different sites and still no luck.

I hope you can help me

information from Belarc
