Hello there. I've tried many places, no one has been able to help me, so i've come here.
This is the final time i'm going to muck around with my computers drivers, because i'm getting so annoyed.
I've reformatted my computer like, 4 times in 2 days now.
It's mainly surrounding my sound. I have Onboard sound.

My motherboard is ASUS P4S800-MX
My Chipset is a SiS 661FX
I have an Intel Celeron 2.67 ghz
Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2.
I went into my Bios, and it said 'Realtek AC97 [Auto]'. It could either be 'Disabled, or Auto'.
I remember a while ago i had an audio program called 'SoundMax', but i got that from my Asus motherboard disc. But i don't have that anymore, and last time i reformated, the SoundMax drivers didn't work, And the Realtek AC97 drivers kept restarting my computer each time i would try and install.
In 'Device Manager' My sound driver has a yellow question mark over it, and it seemed nothing would work for me last time.
Could someone please, if possible do a step by step instruction on what drivers i install first etc, if you do, you will seriously be my hero. no joke.

I rememeber i tried to download and install this driver.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Realtek_AC...ers_d4400.html
for my audio, but each time i tried to, it would get to the end, and just restart my computer. I even tried in safe mode, no luck.
I tried to install PCI SiS Audio drivers, but it just gave me an error message. Now, i have just done a fresh install of Xp Home Edition, NO drivers installed.
Edit: I remember trying to install the Asus Audio drivers from the site, they were called Soundmax, but when i clicked the 'install.exe' nothing opened or anything and under the name 'install.exe' in faint grey, it said 'Installer for windows 2000' but i'm SURE i downloaded the driver for Windows XP.

Thank you so much.

Edit : I went to the Asus site, and went to the correct link to find my motherboard drivers, i downloaded the 'Windows Xp' one, for the audio, but it doesn't install. When i click on the 'install.exe' it just doesn't do anything, and yet, i extracted it correctly

Edit again : This is the official info from Belarc.

Missing audio drive

I have recently reinstalled my Windows XP.
Generally, I am facing the same problem as what i have read, that is lost of audio. Under the volume tab in sound and audio devices properties, it says no audio device. In the device manager, I used to have this big yellow question mark under Multimedia Audio Controller or sumthin, but I'm not sure what i did to make it go missing (im quite a computer illiterate). I think it was from trying to install some inaccurate drive..the only one left with the yellow ques mark now is PCI Simple Communications Controller.. My dad's not sure what sound card we got from the manufacturer. Hoping that u can help me find the right audio device drive. Really crave to hear my songs again...

Smile NO SOUND ON POWEREDGE 400 SC w/ WINDOWS XP

Dear Sirs,

I have a PowerEdge 400 SC that I am utilizing as a workstation. I am using WINDOWS XP HOME as the OS. There appears to a problem with the Multimedia Audio Controller. Under Device manager it has an exclmation point next to it. Also, whenever I try to change the volume settings everything is greyed out and when I click on Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices from Control Panel, I receive a message stating there are no active mixer devices available. To my understanding, the motherboard is utilising Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, but there appears to be no driver installed. I downloaded two different drivers made for the Dimension 4100 and one other PC but to no avail. Here is a cut and paste of Belarc, could someone point me in the right direction?

I read up on a software that list all your system setup and display it via excel or html format: Don;t know the exact link, but it was from here: cmszone.org

Not sure what other info u need. plz help me

That MoBo from Asus has Soundmax onboard audio, but if you have a sound card installed it will not work. Are you radio jacks set near your mous and keyboard sockets, or lower down the tower in an exspansion slot.

Cheers
