Also, whenever I try to change the volume settings everything is greyed out and when I click on Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices from Control Panel, I receive a message stating there are no active mixer devices available. To my understanding, the motherboard is utilising Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, but there appears to be no driver installed. I downloaded two different drivers made for the Dimension 4100 and one other PC but to no avail. Here is a cut and paste of Belarc, could someone point me in the right direction?

I appreciate your help

According to Dell your comp supports Win 2000 and 2003 Server, the audio is shown only for these 2 systems http://support.euro.dell.com/support...s=WNT5&osl=EN#

The chipset is Intel 875P, go here to Intel and update the chipset for Win XP, it installs INF files to the target system http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...5&submit=Go%21
No: 1 in the list, install then RESTART your comp

The driver for the Win 2000 may work, but if not try the ADI 198x you have already downloaded

Hope this helps

[quote=bookworm]That MoBo from Asus has Soundmax onboard audio, but if you have a sound card installed it will not work. Are you radio jacks set near your mous and keyboard sockets, or lower down the tower in an exspansion slot.

Cheers [/QUOTE

Apparently my dad didn't get any additional sound card. He just stuck with the built in audio device that came with the package. The radio jacks are set lower down in an expansion slot. Hopefully this will provide enough info. Aprreciate ur help

Another thing to add :

From reading the asus manual, it says the audio device is a ADI AD1980 SoundMAX 6-channel CODEC.

Went thru various sites looking for the driver but could'nt really find any helpful ones that didn't require me to pay for membership

from the position of the radio jacks, you could have a sound card installed, and the fact that a PCI device is missing again points to a sound card. What make and model is your comp, the audio driver should be available on their site. You can get the ADI from Asus. Go here http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

top left Input Model to Search - type P4SGX-MX / P4SGX-MX / Audio

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Hope this helps

I got all my other drivers form the same page and they worked just fine so i should be in the right spot. If i run the HXFSetup.exe, nothing seems to happen. If i run the regular Setup.exe, it says installation failed. Do you have any thoughts?

C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\Syst...05e587b6).html
Thank you for any help
C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\(Your-4105e587b6).html

Another question:In looking at my belarcs report it looks like im getting updates for service pack3, I thought I had 2.Should I do something about that?

I have:
AOL active virus shield
ccleander
hdcleaner
startupmechanic
spybotsearch and destroy
Ad-aware personal
I have been using those and my computer has seemed pretty clean and safe.I did have other stuff but tried to keep it simple because I was having trouple with my broadband spead (RCN).I think while on the phone with their customer service is when Idecide something to my sound device.I was going through odcb and maybe messed something up thinking i had remains of outpost firewall.

Does this help, some sound (component) history
