Hope this helps

I went to the website you reffered me to and even though it wasn't the sound driver u recommended that fixed it, i got a different sound driver from that website thats working now..Thank you

Also, i'm sure this is another problem but when i try to watch an avi file on windows media player, all i get are just graphics but the sound works, just not the video showing.. Once again i appreciate what you've done.

Many Thanks

The audio for that board is Realtek AC'97 and Chipset is Intel 845g

First go here to Intel

You can get audio here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

And it used to be Windows XP SP2.

Upgraded to Vista, and no audio at all. Says "No audio output device is installed."

I think the older SoundMax might be just tooooooo old for Vista...couldn't find any driver updates on the web.

Question: do drivers for the SoundMax for Vista exist?

Or...should I just go buy a sound card? And if I do, will that work? Or is there something intrinsically out-of-date here, that will prevent this 2002 machine from ever accepting Vista in correct form?

Thanks for your help...I really appreciate it.

Is Device Manager showing a problem with audio drivers, or problems highlighted at all. Are your audio plugs near the keyboard + mouse sockets.

Acording to Sony the audio is Yamaha, have you installed a sound card?

can you get Belarc copy and paste the tech section, no software or win updates http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Cheers

I tried doing that and my computer crashed. There's probably something else wrong with it too. Thanks for helping though!

Thanks for all the help Bookworm It was great to know that there was someone out there who was able to help me out with this. A million thanks for the advice, keep up the good work.
The download from support.asus.com was what did it. When I turned on the speakers and they blasted me with sound even though it was extremely loud it was still a beautiful sound. Again, thanks for aiding me in my pursuit for restored sound.
