I have allready checked that and it was enabled and set to automatic :/

The only thing fixed by rebooting the machine could cause this kind of a problem i can think of is some kind of windows registery corruption but that doesn't explain why the buzzing sound sometimes continued for a bit and then stopped without any effect on the sounds.. but im not an expert on this subject..

Now I have not tried this, but this is a reliable site, have a look
I found this instructions when looking for an answer to this exact same problem, I followed the directions and wala! I now can see my sound card inthe greyed out areas again! Try it out fellas! Carl's solution worked like a charm for me, once I actually read it carefully enough to understand what was going on. It's truly a stroke of genius, and I strongly suggest you try his process before you go reinstalling your entire operating system. To recap in detail (for Windows XP; YMMV): 1. From Device Manager (be sure to select View/Show hidden devices), find the 'ISAPNP Read Data Port' device from the System Devices list. (Of note: once I successfully repaired this problem, this device no longer appears.) 2. Right click the ISAPNP device, and select "Update Driver" 3. Select "Install from a list or specific location" 4. Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." 5. The step I left out on prior trials: UNSELECT "Show Compatible Hardware" 6. Be sure that "(Standard System Devices)" is selected under Manufacturer. 7. Under Model, scroll down until you see "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator". Select this item, and select "Next>". 8. You will receive some frightening error message that you should probably disregard. 9. Complete the installation of the driver. You will see your device list magically change before your eyes. The other PNP devices will mysteriously become enabled and active. If not, restart. Thank you for posting this solution; it has saved endless hours of reinstallation, and perhaps a marriage as well.

If you have a Win XP disc, try a system File Check go to Run - type "sfc /scannow" ( without quotes and note space after sfc) have your Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. It will run, then close, no messages are given

Also have a word with these guys http://www.overclockeddoc.com/

That sure looks promising. On step 6. i found a (Standard system devices) and (Standardit Järjestelmälaitteet) which is exactly the same thing in both languages.. its odd that there is only a "PnP BIOS Extension" under the english one.. this might be it! Creating a system restore point now, that might be a idea for the rest of you trying this out.. reporting results later..

This is interesting.. i followed those instructions carefully and now i get a bluescreen of death when i try to enable my integrated sound card, the new pci one is obviously disabled so it shouldn't be the cause.. should i update the drivers again and again or turn to the overclockeddoc forum for help?

Edit:
Updating the drivers with device manager allowed me to enable my integrated audio device which revealed a disabled "Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver" enabling that revealed a malfunctioning "Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter".. this is getting interesting..

I'd check Device Manager, are both audio devices shown, if so there could be a conflict. Have a word with overclockeddoc site see what they say, they are more up on makeing M$ behave.

Cheers
