Having the same problem as some people on this thread, no sound, and in Device Manager there is a question mark/exclamation point on two items, 'Multimedia Audio Controller' and 'PCI Input Device'. There is also a exclamation point next to a '1394 Net Adapter #2' under Network Adapters. Niether one can find the correct drivers anywhere on my comp, including the Gateway CD that came with it.
I called Gateway tech support, where they had me uninstall all three of these items from the device manager. On reboot, they appeared again as 'new hardware' and the woman told me that meant my soundcard was broken and I would have to purchase another one. Of course that means $$ so obviously im getting a 2nd opinion here
Heres most of my profile from Belarc

No separate drivers listed for sound on this board, but go here to Gigabyte and install the 4 in 1 chipset drivers, it's the only download so I suspect all onboard drivers are in it http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Motherbo..._GA-6VXE7+.htm
Hope this helps

These are your drivers available from Gateway, inputing your serial No: shows you have a gateway 500X comp
Set a System Restore Point before installing each driver just in case
Go here to Gateway http://support.gateway.com/support/d...s=Windows%20XP
First, this driver must be installed separatley, under My Motherboard Downloads get 751351.exe - Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, install and then RESTART your comp. Do not install any of the other drivers
2nd under My Sound Downloads get 7513150.exe Soundmax Intergrated Digital Sound Driver, install
3rd not to sure about this but under My Network Driver try the 7512978.exe Intel Pro/100 VE Network Driver
When you download, save these drivers where you can easily find them, they are all exe files, just double click to install.
Hope this helps

Set a System Restore point before installing each driver just in case
Then go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...5&submit=Go%21
Download No: 8 Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, save where you can easily find, make a note of file, install then RESTART your comp
Then download No: 4 Intergrated Audio Driver, save where you can easily find, then install.
Hope this helps
Cheers

I tried installing but it said "Driver not found! Reboot your system and try again." Do you think my soundcard broke or is there another way? I've been trying everything today. Perhaps I should buy a new soundcard. Thanks, anyways, though.

Hello =)
I'm on a friend's computer who I recently helped format. Same problem as everybody else on this thread. There's a yellow question/exclamation mark on two items, 'Multimedia Audio Controller' and 'Video Controller (VGA Compatible'. I have no idea what their computer make is. They are missing the two CDs required. This is what I have after the Belarc scan. It'd be great if someone can provide the URLs for the required drives. Thanks a lot, really appreciate it for your efforts.

I could install the drivers for the chipset but when i tried to install sound max it still didn't work....I might of messed up something because something went wrong when I was reformatting so i had to reformat again and I picked the faster way to reformat the second time. I don't know if that helps or not lol.

thats the info it gives me for my comp. i go back to the !!!Multimedia Audio Controller's properties in device manager, it says its location is
PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 2, device 1, function 0)
am i rite in assuming that messing with the drivers for my integrated sound is prolly having no effect and the problem lies within a soundblaster card? (i should prolly open my case and actually take a look and see if i actually have the card, just in its current position its a freakin effort to do all that). soundblaster cds came with my comp, so tried looking for the drivers on there, but it just says 'No Soundblaster Products were detected on your computer'.
A techie I know said to uninstall all sound drivers, and then run the autoupdate on the creative site...
there are only two sound drivers I can uninstall, I can uninstall the integrated digital sound driver, and a 'Creative Game port' driver, whos hardware location is also
PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 2, device 1, function 1)'
i uninstalled both, and ran the autoupdate on the Creative site. It only detected my creative zen mp3 player and nothing else... On reboot, both the Creative Game Port and Soundmax Intigrated Digital Audio drivers were automatically installed. Ran the autoupdate on the creative site again, without uninstalling the Game Port, and it still did not detect any creative products beside my mp3 player.

mutimedia audio controller
I am having the same problem (no sound), just reformatted and reinstalled windows xp home edition and yellow error under other devices-multimedia audio controller (no driver).
I have an Intel D845WN motherboard, and need a driver for I guess an Intel 82801BA/BAM AC '97 audio controller....I looked up the product manual at intel, and it says the D845WN comes with AD 1885 AC '97 Audio with Soundmax.
Please help, ASAP, it's almost Chrismas and it's my daughter's computer, and her main gift is the ipod video, so imagine how great it'll be with NO SOUND.

thats the info it gives me for my comp. i go back to the !!!Multimedia Audio Controller's properties in device manager, it says its location is
PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 2, device 1, function 0)
am i rite in assuming that messing with the drivers for my integrated sound is prolly having no effect and the problem lies within a soundblaster card?

Get this little programe (free) Unknow Device Identifier from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...entifier.shtml
this will list all devices on your comp, this site is safe. It will give a list of all devices, so if a separate sound card installed it will show, it's a long list.
Hope this helps

They are missing the two CDs required. This is what I have after the Belarc scan. It'd be great if someone can provide the URLs for the required drives. Thanks a lot, really appreciate it for your efforts.

Take a look here, it's best not to do a quick format, this site will give a guide to all you need to do http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
Hope this helps

Set a System Restore before installing each driver just in case
Then go here to Intel
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...5&submit=Go%21
First download No:6 - Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, save to where can easily find, install then RESTART your comp
Second download No:3 Intergrated Audio Driver, save where you can easily find then install.
