bookworm, what should I do to get the multimedia audio controller now? pls help...

For this driver to work your audio plugs have to be on the I/O plate see here http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

This is your audio driver from Dell http://support.euro.dell.com/support...3&fileid=67126

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

then it has Realtek AC'97 go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

THANK YOU!!

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

let me know how you go on

k well....when i checked the audio controller, i was unable to click on the arrow....its gray and i cant change anything....when i checked in device manger..it was already set to automatic...

Hi there, I've been soundless for a bit and was relieved to find this forum. There's a yellow question mark next to the Multimedia Audio Control and when I run the Hardware wizard it says "The hardware could not be installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."
I used that Belarc program that was posted awhile back. If theres anything missing tell me because a lot of this is confusing.

It's this you have to check in Control Panel
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot.

Sorry for being a big dum fool....but...NO SOUND XP RE-BOOT

I am having a problem with my sound. I have re-booted XP but now only get BEEP and have error exclamation on my 'Multimedia Audio Controller' in Device Manager.

Same problem as lots of users by the looks of things but I'm not very good at deciphering exactly what I need to do...I have downloaded BeLarc but it doesn't really make much sense to me ...is there anyone that can tell me what I need to do to get sound back?

Again sorry for being such an air-head but I have tried everything within my very limited capabilities to resolve this problem and have not succeeded...PLEASE SOMEONE SUPER HELP ME!!??!!

Cheers

Paul

(TriBrindle)

P.S. I am not sure what information to include from BeLarc but am eager to be told what to do....
