Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading, at this point Create another folder name Audio Unzipped

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path) click Browse and extract to folder Audio Unzipped

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

crap sorry i put my post in the wrong one i figured i would put it here in the right place im gonna try to delete the other one but yeah here is my question
i am fixing a laptop for my buddie it was realy screwed up so i figured i could reformat the drive and reinstall the drivers...how ever most of the drivers realy didnt work....now im screwed...lol...i am hoping someone could help i have used driver genius,driverguide toolkit and unknown device identifyer none of them work...there are also question marks on the Multimedia audio contoller,PCI Modem and,Ethernet controller,so i have no sound and the wireless thing isnt there....i have a compaq presario v2000 laptop i think the exact model is a V2402US here is all the info i got from scanning with that Barloc

I stopped updates since last year when they released a patch that restricted my internet connection via wireless [the XP verification patch], so that's why I've got a load of criticals. But here's the specs anyway.

A forced install is when you tell Windows which driver to use, as shown here it's the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

The driver you gave me the link for was one that I said I already tried in my first post. It has a setup file but it doesnt work and when I try to force it to install by the method you suggested the driver installs but it still gives me "this device will not start" error. Could this be a problem with the hardware? And if so could this have resulted in a bad HAL.dll, which is the reason I had to reinstall windows in the first place

Thanx alot BookWorm everything seems to be working accept there is still a question mark on Ethernet controller...i am not sure what it is i need to fix this pronlem...but thank you so much for helping me on everything else!!!i been trying to figure this out for days on end!!!well i know your kinda busy so i will get outta your hair but if you have any information on the Ethernet thing though please send the info my way

Exclamation No sound although pci card is detected. Asus A7S333.
Hi Barbara,

I have no sound in a CMI8738 audio chip, in an Asus A7S333 mobo.
All of a sudden, although WinXP recognizes the CMI via pNp, no other app can !
DirectX doesn´t recognize any sound card installed. There´s just an empty select box there.

Winamp and Windows Media Player can´t, also, play anything.

I tried to install the driver:

Unhappy No sounds for meeeee

Today I formatted my harddrive and reinstalled XP..everything else works oki doki but I get no sound. =( I've been trying to fix this all day but i just dont get it..a program called Driver Detective says that I have no driver for Multimedia Audio Controller but when i download the driver it recommends (Creative X-FI something) i get a message 'cant find a supported product'....hokay I'm reAlly tired so I'll just put the Belarc Info HERE:
