Take a look at this from Packard Bell Forum http://forum.packardbell.com/en/viewtopic.php?t=35560

Now it's listed check Windows Update to see if it gives you a driver update

Hope this helps

Iv'e checked the motherboard site, that board according to GigaByte has a Realtek AC'97 audio driver, it is out of date, as Realtek has issued 2 updates to that driver in December/2005, now packard Bell say on their site that they have altered the SiS650 chipset, so I was reluctant to suggest this driver, if you want to try this one get it here http://w3serv.realtek.com.tw/downloa...&Software=True

Don't forget the System Restore Point just in case

Hope this helps

Hi,

Since a few days ago I have had no sound. I have had this computer (Win XP, hewlett-packard model a620n) for a bit over a year and this is the first problem of this nature I have had.

First, I kept getting errors saying something about DirectSound/out_ds.dll not being functional. I downloaded a new copy of the plugin, and no luck.
In addition to the DS error, when I check my sound configurations and such in Control Panel, it says 'no audio device' in some places, but my device (Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA audio controller) shows up in other places.

I tried getting a new driver for the device but to no avail.

This is driving me crazy, especially since I am a musician, and keep my whole music collection on my computer. Any help would be much appreciated, and sorry in advance for being slightly..technologically illiterate.

Hey, I recently formatted my computer and came to find that there is no sound, but the annoying "beep" sound. I am amazed that I survived through a week or two without any sound of my computer at all. I'm desperate for help.

Reading back in the previous pages, I went to Belarc to get information.

Operating System System Model
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (build 2600)

Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4S533MX REV 1.xx
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software, Inc. ASUS P4S533-MX ACPI BIOS Revision 1005 04/18/2003

My make is Optima and I'm using XP.

If anyone could help, I will worship you and love you forever. *sniffles* I miss sound.

Do you mean, the download box does not appear, or are you given an error, if the box does not appear look in the Temp folder, or do a Search for the file it's will be listed as 7512183.exe.

Hope this helps

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Your board is an ASUS P4S533-MX

Go here to ASUS http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

Under Download, Input Model to Search - P4S533-MX
Select Caregory - Drivers - Search Info - P4S533-MX - scroll to Audio - SoundMAX for Win XP - choose download site.

Hope this helps
