Dear Soundqueen. Can't track drivers for ANY multimedia controls!

Dear Soundqueen.

Bet you must be getting a severe case of deja vu round about now....

Like so many of the others you've helped, I am getting no sound from my system (apart from the antique fan keeping it cooled!)

My comp. has an AMD-Sempron board (so it says on the front), an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 Soundcard, 1 gig RAM. Here follows the BELARC Advisor findings for my system:-

The problem is, my Multimedia Controller, Multimedia Video Controller and SM Bus Controller all have big yellow question marks next to them. And when I right-click on any of them, they all come up as 'Manufacturer: Unknown:" Which is wonderfully helpful. Not.

How do I find the manufacturers out, so I know which drivers to download for the system? I'd love to hear something coming out of this thing!

Yours in faith

Chris.

multimedia audio controller

Hello,
I recently had my laptop cleaned of viruses and had to have several programs removed. It appears that the device that enables my laptop to play sound has also been removed. I have been onto control panel and next to multimedia audio controller there is a big yellow question mark. Occassionally my laptop beeps when a warning signal comes up but its clearly not from the speakers.

How do I get sound back on my laptop?!?!?! HELP!!!!

What do I do?
PLease help me!

Dear Bookworm,

Something's gone horribly wrong Thank you for your help on the other things, the driver seemed to install ok, but as I re-started the same old problems occured again, keep re-starting over and over. So I had to restore.. although this time, it didnt work all I get is a message saying

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt

I don't have genuine windows XP, and I don't even have the cd with me, my boyfriend made me ther computer. I try to restore and the restore point I set before I instralled the drivers doesnt show

Ive only been able to restore through Norton GOback.. I quickly looked at the bios menu to see if anything stood out, but I don't understand any of it I wondered if there was another way to restore back to a time when it was ok? I named the restore and everything! Does it only last a day or something?

I was getting at least to the screen, where it says start windows in safe mode, then another safe mode one, then start windows in last known good configuration, then start windows normally.. I';m not even getting that now :'( I just don't know what to do, I'm on another pc, I cant do anything on the damn thing

I don't even know what that message is for, error about what Stupid computers I've got to hand my work in soon, and I don't have a back up of what i've done in the last few days :'( my stupid fault I know Is there anything I can do? Pleeeeeeease help, I think i'm having a breakdown over a computer

Thanks a lot

Me again,

As strange a thought as this may be, I just thought for some reason that the file system is still FAT32.. I'm used to having my system as NTFS, it maybe only be, that I think it could possibly cause some conflict, just because I havent seen it in FAT32

Or is there a possibility that installing drivers meant for windows xp that are in NTFS format could cause conflict? I dont know.. I dont know anything and i'm worrying about every little thing lol

Also, I forgot to mention that after I installed the realtek AC97, it said "do you wish to continue installing ... as its not compitable with windows xp, and hasnt passed windows logo testing" Or something similar.. I dont know if that means anything.. I havent clue, i'm just trying to offer everything I remember in hopes that someone might recognise whats wrong and help me solve this problem, I need my computer.

Anyone, bookworm or anyone else, please
Thanks for reading

Need more info, make and model or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

It needs to be the same as installed on your comp Win XP home or professional, does not need to be the one used to install, you can do a Repair Install of XP. You wont lose any data thats on the comp.

This is how http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
