This is what Belarc says about my PC. I tried to use Media Player and it told me that it could not play the sound file. When I looked in the device manager, it shows that the Multimedia Audio Controller has no driver.

I have had gateway do a system check like Belarc does and it shows the Multimedia Audio Controller but is says name unknown. Belarc does not find that component at all and only list "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device" under Multimedia and that driver is as up-to-date as I can get it..... Please help....I need the sound for my job.

Thanks.

This is the audio driver from Gateway http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=177150822

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

Missing Drivers

Been looking for a cure for loss of multimedia drivers when reformatting. I am using XP pro on an Aries Green732 laptop, I have also used belarc advisor to get following info. You appear to be the master or mistress of missing sound, is this sufficient information to cure my 12 month search for sound. It also appears the video driver is missing as the scrolling of scrren etc is also v poor compared to before the reformat. Here's hoping you can help.

Truly wonderful - now have sound and vid working properly, why can't Microsoft offer you a job and pay you the huge sums of money you deserve for helping us novices out with glitches in their (MS) software. I can't thank you enough.

Glad to have found this thread.

Looks like I have the same problem, I had to format due to a vundu.trojan or some junk like that.

Deleted and recreated the partition, installed XP all that jazz, but no sound.

All devices under Multimedia is (?) marked and cant find a way to get them installed. I have Belarc results under Multimedia say None Detected.

is this the diver http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it...ppn=P851008201

if so check this out to se if SigmaTel is default audio

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.
