Hey Bookworm

Ok so i've got a similar problem to most people on this site, but am still struggling when using the solutions you've provided them.

The system in question is:

Packard Bell - IMedia 1402
S/N - 041368720019
P/D - 0413687
P/N - PB13202001

Here is the message i'm getting when attempting to play audio files.

And here are the system devices.

By the looks of things my audio drivers are there. I believe it's down to the chipset, which is...
SIS 962Lua

MoBo:
GA-8SIMLNF

I'm running XP, need anymore info let me know.

I've attempted to find the correct chipset drivers to no avail.

Hopefully you can help me with this one. Thanks.

Thanks.

These are the driers for your model, chipset, audio and modem are listed
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it...8720019&g=2000

check this to see if SigmaTel C Major is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

SiS can be a pain, it has a habit of disabling sound in the BIOS

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

These are the drivers for the model you have given http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...5 618&lang=en

but look at this, check under the notebook lots of flavors

you need the Intel Chipset Installation Utility - install then Restart your comp. then the audio and you will need to know which network driver you need

Book Worm

Soundcard is onboard, not pci etc...

Attempted the control panel/sound and audio devices route and this is the result...

Ive tried using the drivers off the Packard Bell website, that was my first port of call. No luck with any of the drivers. That's why i'm really confused by the matter.

I would have reformatted and reinstalled by now, but don't have access to an XP disk at the moment.

Anything i could have overlooked? Thanks
