ok i installed the 4in1 but i didn't know what update you meant...so i downloaded soundmax from asus site and tried to install however when the install was finished i got a "driver not found! reboot your system, and run this setup again." i did reboot and tried but got the same message... and when i look in "set program access and defaults" i see that there is realtek ac'97 audio installed..and when i try to uninstall it i get a error message..using driver cleaner didn't help either.

You have to do a force install, like this

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section

Open Everest - expand Computer - select Summary - select Report - Quick Report - HTML . The report opens, using mouse hold the left button and starting at all above Debug-PCI - highlight all the text - when highlighted right lick mouse - select Copy.

his driver is for the 5.1 Digital , No:4 the Live Driver pack
http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor...ct=0&x=26&y=12

Bookworm,

Gave that a try and still nothing. I tried to do a complete uninstall then system restore then reinstall and stilll nothing. So then for giggles I uninstalled the card and removed it form the system. Plugged the speakers into the onboard and still nothing. I thought for sure the onboard would be there.

Any ideas?

Rodney
