are those information enough? where can i find the driver?

it's amazing what you do. this thread is over 300 pages already. i really hope you could help me. thank you.

UPDATE

i ran the update hardware wizard again, and it was able to find something. now, C-Media AC97 Audio Device, under the Sounds, etc in the device manager, is the ones not working. when i double click the item, here's what is says: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

i ran belarc again and there are new items under multimedia:

C-Media AC97 Audio Device
CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device
MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device
Standard Game Port
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device

what does this mean? there's still no sound..

The audio driver is here http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...uID=52&LanID=8

Install this way - use the If No Setup File after you download and unzipp, make a note of where the driver is stored

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

downloaded SOUNDMAX from intel, already unzipped it and tried to install it following your instruction. That is to look for "setup" and install but there is a problem: "NO DRIVER FOUND", "REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER AND RUN THIS SETUP AGAIN".

I rebooted the computer and tried to run setup several times, but same problem: no driver found

What should I do?

This driver can be a pain - install this way - you need to make a note of where the unziped files are stored

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver

Multimedia Audio Controller Problem

I don't have sound on my computer. At least not from the speakers. My computer makes a beeping noise once in a while when I start up. Recently I formatted my computer and installed windows XP. Everything seems fine except I don't have any sound. When I checked the device manager, under Other Devices, Multimedia Audio Controller had a big yellow question mark in front of it. You need the path to where you unzipped the Soundmax driver you downloaded. Go to the file where you tried to use the Setup installation, open it, then look at the address bar, the path is shown there. Look at this to see what I mean, click image to focus

Try a System File Check go to Run – type “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes and note space after sfc) have Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The programme runs with no alerts and then closes.
