Ok I have the same problem. NO sound, yellow mark on the multimedia audio controller. This was after a clean reinstall of windows xp. I installed the chipset driver. Then the audio drivers, when soundmax tries to install, it freezes up. I reboot the system, then I get an error message saying "Application or DLL C:\Windows\system32\EDcrypt.DLL is not a valid windows image" I installed this from the resource cd. I tried to download it from the dell web site but when I try unzipping it, it tells me it's from a multi disk set, to put in diskette, I downloaded it from the dell website. I'm really at a loss as to what to try next, any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Computer info: Dell Dimension 3000.

Check these out first

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

Then check step 7 to see if audio is [Enable] in the BIOS

Same problem as EVRYBODY else

I got a new MP3 player, and it killed my computer when I plugged it in. I couldn't even get my comp past the start screen so I (foolishly perhaps) did a system recovery. I hadn't noticed that my sound wasn't working till a couple of days later.

It says I have no Audio Device. I think it's supposed to be realtek AC'97, but that didn't work, so I could be wrong. I checked BIOS and it's all enabled.

The crummy thing is I'm a music student and I really really NEED my sound back or I'll fail my degree. Hurrah.

Here's the information from Belarc:

Oh, Also, it's a custom built/refurbished computer...I've been searching for advice for three hours now so I'm too tired to check if the Motherboard model is there, but I can see on my actual motherboard:

P4i65G Prescott800 Dual Channel DDR400

Dunno if that'll help.
