Try installing this way, look for Soundmax audio or the yellow flagged multimedia device

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

I have a Starbook 860 notebook with an Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz Processor. I run WindowsXP Pro and I have no sound whatever from it. The device manager tells me that there is no MultiMedia Controller fitted . It was running well until 2 days ago when I downloaded a Codec from KLite. I had downloaded that because although I had sound when I used my TV for a monitor - there was no picture. Now I have nothing. Can you help?

These are the drivers for your model http://support.gateway.com/support/d...=pn&param=4093

no audio listed, it most likely is in the AMD chipset driver download

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
