As the many other on here I to am thinking I'm going deaf at the desk!!!
Lost Sound .'
Downloaded Driver for updating the sound driver as it was dated. But hadn't removed previous one. Removed that & once again downloaded the
Realtex Ac'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller. as the suggested replacement. via Belarc.
'System model' VT8367-8235
On 'Device man'. there is a yellow query on that ''Realtex Controller.'' in ''sound etc etc .
It is in my ''System Info.''
In ''sound etc'' in 'Control panel' there is no sound device -->
''? Direct sound missing- not detected.'' Code 10.
This is now not greyed-out but still no sound
My computer spec's Win. 2002 XP home. Service Pack 2.
AMD Athlon (tm) 2200.
Pentium 3.
Cache. 256 K12.
Mem.- 512 MB RAM.
Processed speed. 1798 MNZ.
Graphic Card. 'Saphire Radeon 9600 -256MB. Series ACP.
Hard Drive. 50GB.
Modem. 56k Soft V 92.
Version. 5.1.2600.
------------------------
Now I've Removed Realtex.
Now --'no hardware found'' in the wizard.??
'Device Man.' has two yellow question mark next after the 'Network Device' on 'Other Devices' & 'Multimadia Controller'Microsoft says that 'VIA AC'97 Audio Controller' is somewhere
Yellow ? also on ''other devises'' & ''multi media controller''

Thanks for being there

well when i open the sound & audio devices is says that there are no audio devices and all it´s grey so i cannot select or change nothing.any ideia?

check this to see if Sound Blaster is set as default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.[/quote]

check this to see if Sound Blaster is set as default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

check this

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot.

Go here to Asus - click Audio - http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

choose a download site nearest to you - Asus is slow

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

XP has recognised the audio hardware now you need to point XP to use the Sound Blaster drivers you have downloaded, check the file path to where you unzipped the files to, make a note
