Set a System Restore Point before you install each driver

1st. Go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21
install No:4 Inf Update Utility then RESTART your comp

2nd. Go here to Realtek http://w3serv.realtek.com.tw/downloa...&Software=True
and install the audio driver.

Hope this helps

Hi. I did all that, but it still won't work. The hardware thing doesn't come up when I restart anymore, but when I go to the device manager, and check, there's an exclamation point next to Multimedia Audio Controller. I clicked it, and it said that it's not installed. I clicked reinstall driver, and it said that the files are not verified. I clicked install anyway, just to see what would happen. It backed up and set a system restore point, and it seemed like it was installing, but then it crashed my computer. I tried two more times, and it kept happening.

Do you have any idea as to why it's happening?

Go here to Packard Bell http://support.packardbell.com/uk/my...rnr=R273600328

scroll to Sound, it's a PCI 288 audio driver, try the Win 98SE, I believe it will work with XP, if not there is one at DriversGuide that does.

Take a look at this http://www.fixmyxp.com/windows_xp_fi...nd_issues.html

also look in Add/Remove programes in Control Panel, is anything listed for Realtek Audio

Did you try a Restore point to before you uninstalled anything?

Hope this helps

That really doesn't help me. (The link) I have no volume icon. =\ I restored my computer to before anything was uninstalled, but that didn't do anything. I reinstalled Realtek AC97 and it's in my add/remove programs, but that isn't doing anything either. I went to device manager and tried to fix the Multimedia Audio Controller, but it crashed my computer. I tried again, and capped a few screen shots.

And that's the same for the sound, audio and voice tabs.

I'm starting to think that there's something really wrong.

Thanks so much

Dear Bookworm,

I posted that reply at around 2 am... i solved my problem at around 4 am... just thought that your posters would like my story... so like i posted the pc is a thinkcentre from IBM made by lenovo.. so i installed windows xp like all your previous posters and low and behold no sound and video card is not also detected or something... I started installing windows at around 5 pm... so i ended at around 7 pm installing windows... so i started figuring out the problem at 7... didnt stop until 4 am... almost 12 hours... i figured out what i was doing wrong... which people might be enlightened at... i thought i needed a driver for my sound card.. because of the MAC..(Multimedia Audio Controller) so i used aida32 it determined what it was SiS1702 so i downloaded the driver but it kept saying that product something was being used and kept popping up an error message. So i resigned to using some other brand just to get the damn thing to work (at around 4am) so downloaded the realtek ac97 controller... and wow it worked beautifully... so if your using an SiS1702 or soemthing trydownloading the RealTek AC97... thank for inspiring me to look for a solution to this annoying problem bookworm... and more power!!

Did I select what exactly? I just don't know what you're asking me. I can't select anything because there's nothing installed, or so it says.

If I click contunue anyway, it crashes my computer. I click it, and it starts installing, and then crashes. Then I get that blue screen when I restart and have to start my computer at a safe point before the crash happened. =\
