I have installed the AC'97 realtek drivers as that's what it has, it gives no warning/alert message that anything could be wrong in the device manager, and i have checked in BIOS that the sound is activated and i've checked so that it has the realtek sound as standard sound...

i'm lost now, really don't know what to do now.. appreciate all the help i can get

check this out

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot.

It's most likely the chipset that needs installing go here to MSI and install the NVIDIA nForce4 System drivers, then restart your comp
http://asia.msi.com.tw/index.php?fun...=1&prod_no=203

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

@bookworm, no that didn't help either :/

also just tried to follow the XP guide for errors just to make sure i havn't missed any settings or alike, and nothing of that worked either..

And as i said earlier, i get no such conflict, and no error message or anything, it just says that it's working perfectly.

and the speakers are working aswell...

But when i expand "sound, video and game controllers" it apears the Creative SB Live! series...and there is no yellow flag on this device. the yellow marker is more below on what its called "Other devices" when i expand it says Multimedia audio controllers. and its yellow.i cannot get this thing working

XP has recognised the audio hardware now you need to point XP to use the Sound Blaster drivers you have downloaded, check the file path to where you unzipped the files to, make a note

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions[/quote]
