what system do you have Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

XP has recognised the audio hardware now you need to point XP to use the Sound Blaster drivers you have downloaded, check the file path to where you unzipped the files to, make a note

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

you have a set of audio plugs on the I/O plate, try your speakers in them

Thanks so much! quck note though. The readme install intsructions for this are a little inaccurate. It will tell you to install drivers on a SoundMax icon. Since there is not one, only legacy icons (which work properly), and the "multimedia audio controller" (which has the yellow question mark) I just used the same intrucions on it. You also have to update the drivers to "sound video and game controllers" on the 2nd step (The Hardware Update Wizard) Just for anyone else who tries this knows. Bottom line is it worked and I am forever in your debt!!!

Hi!

I've got the same problem as everyone else. I think I've got a built in Realtek ALC202 soundcard on this but I can't find a driver for it. This is a computer that I got from work and I had to format it to remove all the information on it and then reinstall windows so I've got no original cds. I've now done all the updates that microsoft recommends and I was hoping that the driver would come there but no. I've got audio codecs and legacy audio drivers and media control devices listed in device manager but there's a yellow question mark on Multimedia Audio Controller so I suppose I'd need a driver for it.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

It a Gateway MX 6437 serial: T3564H1004208

Thanks

this has caused no end of problems to install, look at this, you have the same setup as the MX6445
For people having the same audio problem (Conexant Ac-Link Audio Drivers, Realtek) here is the fix.
“1. Install Realtek Audio driver (WDM_A380 or WDM_A381, doesn’t matter).
2. Reboot
3. Download and try to install the Conexant AC 97 audio driver. You can get the one from Gateway (D00245-001-001 driver), or any other manufacturer that uses this chip in the notebook. Pay attention to where it stores the files. For instance the Gateway driver uncompresses to c:\cabs\directory name.
4. Go to device manager, find the Realtek AC 97 audio item under “Sound, video, and game controllers”. Right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVER
5. Select NO if it asks to connect to Windows Update, click NEXT
6. Select “Install from a list of specific location” and click NEXT
7. Select “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” and click NEXT
8. DE-select “Show compatible Hardware”. CONEXANT should show up under manufacturer since you tried to install the driver earlier.
9. Click on CONEXANT on the left, then select “Conexant AC-Link Audio” on the right and click NEXTThe driver will install. It may ask you for the location of some files, point it to the directory the Conexant driver uncompressed to in step 3.
Reboot, and you should have working audio!”

also this driver from HP works it has the same chipset but you have to do a force install
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN

this way using the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

It's not showing the motherboard just the chipset
Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section

Open Everest - expand Computer - select Summary - select Report - Quick Report - HTML . The report opens, using mouse hold the left button and starting at all above Debug-PCI - highlight all the text - when highlighted right click mouse - select Copy
