new problem

First I just want to thank everyone for the help in this seemingly ongoing processes of upgrading haha. Second, I need some help and I'm totally stumped this time. The sound isn't working but there are no flags in the audio tab, instead there are two in the other devices and I can't figure what they go to. The hardware is good b/c it did have sound when I was running the tower with another hd. Now there is nothing, but no error message either. Please, I miss my podcasts lol. Thanks again.

My sound is off, too! I have no ? marks next to everything - it says it is all working properly. I know a driver must be missing from somehwere - but I can't figure it out. When I open the sound window, the picture of the speakers is there, but greyed out. Under the audio tab it lists "Modem #0 Line Playback" under default device for sound playback and recording, as well as voice. Now- to complicate things more - I have also lost all of the devices connected through my USBs - the USBs are working, but no devices are listed (scanner, external drive, printer). I will address this is my next post to keep it separate. I also see that it is saying a particular update (KB936181) is not installed - but I have supposedly installed it many times. My system keeps telling me the update is available, I keep saying install, it does, and then we start all over again.

Here is the Belcarc info on my system... What do I do to restore my sound?

first check to see if you can select Realtek as default audio
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

if not get the driver here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4400.html

download, save to desktop, double click to install

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

need the make and model or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.
