I formatted my PC yesterday and reinstalled Windows XP SP-2, and it returned with no sound at all (just that annoying beep from the tower). Before I start I will just say that I'm completely computer illiterate - everything I have tried has just been following instructions from the million links I clicked from googling my problem.
Originally I went into the device manager and all of the devices seem to be working except for multimedia audio controller, which had a yellow exclamation mark beside it. I tried to update the drivers for it, but it wouldn't let me.
Next I tried finding my sound-card, which was a Soundblaster 16 AWE32 (I have a MaxData pc), and I don't have a disk for it (a method lots of people suggested on other sites) so I went to the maxdata site and downloaded the driver update, but when I tried to install that it said there is "no supported product". Then I tried to manually update / install (no idea what I was doing) the sound card from the device manager, and now under the list of hardware it was next to the Multimedia Audio Controller with a yellow exclamation mark, saying "code 10". So I went to a site which told me how to get rid of code 10, and tried to re-update but now there is about 4 of the same device (all the soundblaster) at the top with the yellow exclamation mark, all saying "code 12".
I've also uninstalled all drivers in safe mode and then rebooted and reinstalled, to no avail. If anyone at all could help me with a kind of "fools guide" then I would much appreciate it. This problem is very annoying!

Update - I've now installed many different Soundblaster 16 drivers, from everywhere I could find, none of them working at all.
oh and I use Windows XP Pro if that's a difference-maker.

Can you help me?
thx in advance

Go here to Fujitsu Siemens http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/support/downloads.html
you will need your serial number, it shows how to find it, this will gib=ve access to all drivers you need. The board is an ASUS and your driver is a SoundMAX, ASUS do not offer support for this board.

Hope this helps

The main problem with Intel boards is that the chipset driver needs to be installed before any other drivers, you can get the chipset from Maxdor if you search under motherboard MS-7037 http://ftp.maxdata.com/index.asp?inf...Driver/Chipset

or from Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21
it's No:2

after installation RESTART your comp, then install the Audio driver

This is the information from Intel, check No: 7 ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-suppo...ENG/readme.txt

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

Hope this helps

Download the Win XP home, it should work on any version of XP, don't forget the Restore Point before installing just in case.

Hope this helps

I have what appears to be a problem with an eMachines PC graphics controller (although for all I know, it could be something else). What happens is that whenever I try to view an .mpg file in Windows Media Explorer (latest version), the file will play just fine for 2 minutes and 40 seconds, then hang. That is, it appears to keep playing but the picture is frozen. Any .mpg file I try, doesn't matter the size or length, freezes up after 2:40. I downloaded an open-source viewer called VLC and it freezes up in exactly the same way.

Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?

This is an eMachines T2958, 2.66gHz, 256k L2 cache, 512MB SDRAM. The graphics control is an Intel Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV, with a driver version 6.14.10.3722. Dated 11/20/2003.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Ohhh...I've installed that driver, but soon the system has crashed..so I have had to reboot the pc is safe mode and disable the audio controller.
Now I'm looking for other Asus Soundmax drivers, but it seems there are tons of similar drivers: searching with google "AD 1888" "windows xp pro" gives me back a lot of japanese and russian pages....Help!
