Download Everest: http://www.lavalys.com/products/down...?ps=CE&lang=en
Run it, go down the list on the left to "summary", copy and paste the contents of the rightside display, here.

Tick I accept the above – wait till site resets then click Next

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

I did as you said above; still no luck. I am not even sure how to install the proper driver at this point and time. It is a dual boot with vista and xp; vista partition works fine.

Again I appreciate all your assistance,

Thank you

Jerry

Right click the modem in device manager and disable it.

Usual Realtek AC-97 type problem

lo all, I have an old AMD socket 939 MSI motherboard and am having what it appears is a very common problem. Had to re install windows and since doing so with a fresh copy of XP pro I have no sound. The motherboard is known as AMETHYST-M and apparently uses Realtek-97 for the onboard sound chip.

DXdiag says no sound device installed. I do of course have an onboard sound chip.

I have checked that on board sound is enabled on the bois and i have tried using the msi live update which allows MSI to pick driver software for me and still it doesnt work.

I get a multimedia audio controller and sm bus controller shown in devide manager each with the yellow exclamation mark.

I have ried deleting the audio controller as instructed then rebooting , running the realtek driver installer package and rebooting but all that happens is it detects new hardware ( audio controller ) tries to find a driver ( but doesnt) than says a problem has occured with your hardeware installation and it might not work , which of course it doesnt.

I also had a list of " Legacy " devices including a legacy audio and legacy codecs in the device manager , i have deleted these amnd i note they have not come back.

So you see I've had a good hunt round found a thousand people in my boat but still cant get sound back even when using the MSI recomended fix , am I doing something stupidly wrong here ?

I have tried MSI live updates drivers and this one

cheers

check this out

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot.

The board is an MSI for HP, you need the chipset driver( Ati RS482 ) , I can link to one but I need to be sure Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
it's the first section, the clues I need are there

NO SOUND!! help

Hello, I have a similar problem with most of you, my laptop has no sound, not even when I connect external headphones or speakers. I shutted it down and when it restarted a message appeared saying that it needs the software to install multimedia audio controller. I do not have any installation cd. How do I know which is the proper driver for my hardware? before the sound was lost in sound and speech devices in my control panel I think it said realtek A97(now it says "no audio device")
my laptop is Hi-Grade Notino C5515, windows XP.

I would appreciate any help!
regards,
christina
