look at page 71, Smart Restore, I can't find anything for the BIOS which I suspect is the problem, audio is not enabled there.

I'm having a problem finding the model at Hi-Grade can you Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates. See if it gives more clues

Jerry

This does imply that audio is disabled in the BIOS for XP, not sure where to go from here, BIOS for notebooks is hard to find details for, the only thing I can suggest is to install the chipset, http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...false&x=53&y=7

then restart the comp. Just a point which OS is 1st boot XP or Vista

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

You need to check the BIOS to see if audio enabled, the manual does not give the full setup, but these are similar. You are looking for the AC'97 audio

All commands are done using the keyboard.

Press the <Del> key as soon as comp boots, this screen opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...IOS%20Main.JPG

use down arrow to go to Integrated Peripherals - press Enter, now the screen could look like this http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...eripherals.JPG
where AC'97 is in the list
or you may need another screen to navigate, this one, where you select the OnChip PCI Device - press Enter
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...eripherals.JPG

this screen opens http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...I%20Device.JPG

select the AC'97 audio, if [Disabled] use the + key to change to [Auto] or [Enabled]

press the F10 key to Save & Exit

y to accept changes

XP will load

if need be install audio driver again

Are your audio plugs on the I/O plate or in a expansion slot, see here, click image to focus
