im really mad my problem is i cant find the volume speaker on taskbar and i cant click on it on the sound and device property and it has a ! mark on multimedia audio controller and im guessing thats the problem i accidently uninstalled it

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

So long story short...I reformatted my dell the other day but didn't have my original startup disk, therefore I used the one that came with my HP laptop...bad idea. Now my dell thinks it's a HP and I had to uninstall a ton of junk and reinstall all the dell crap. Well everything seems to be operating fine except for the sound.

Sorry for asking the same question that has been answered so many times already....but I have been fighting this 'no audio device' problem for several days now. The multi media audio device has a yellow triangle by it in the device manager and I have tried installing the driver from dell's website, intel's website, and the realtek website right above my post. Nothing has worked so far...here are my specs, any help is appreciated...

first install the Chipset - then restart your comp

then the Audio ADI 198x but install this way using the If No Setup File method - XP can be picky with this driver - you have to tell it to use it - make a note of where Dell uncompressed the file to

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing EACH driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
