use the yellow flagged multimedia device in place of sigmatel, or do this way, make note of where drivers are

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

I have the same problem. This is what Belarc gave me initially...

Code:
System Model VIA Technologies, Inc. P4M266-8233 Enclosure Type: Desktop Main Circuit Board Board: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD P4M266-8233 Bus Clock: 133 megahertz BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 09/16/2004 Multimedia None detected

I then installed the Realtek AC'97 driver and now under Multimedia it shows,
Code:
Multimedia Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller

After installing Realtek AC'97, I get a an exclamation mark (!) next to "Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller" in Device Manager instead of the yellow Question mark (?)...

I dont still get audio.

No Sound Waaaa

Hello all!

i have been trying for months to get my sound working and have run out of ideas, googled it and found this thread - my problem is v.similar to the first post on this thread:

"I don't seem to have sound on my computer. That is, from the speakers anyway, My computer, the actual PC, makes a beeping noise once in a while when I start up" (in my case my computer died and needed to be wiped and i reinstalled all the right drivers in the right order and...) "everything seems fine except I don't have any sound. When I checked the device manager, under Other Devices, Multimedia Audio Controller had a big yellow question mark in front of it. I tried to uninstall it in safe mode, and then restart it normally, it didn't work. When I got back on, I tried to reinstall it, but the computer couldn't find the software for the controller. So...help?"

i saw bookworm asked for details from that poster to help solve the problem so here are mine:

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 3000
System Service Tag: FP7YV1J (support for this PC)
Chassis Serial Number: FP7YV1J
Enclosure Type: Mini-Tower

any help would be soooo much appreciated =) ~x~
