You need to make a note of where the files are stored something like C:\ Cabs and the number , then you point Windows to the file you downloaded.

try installing this way

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Thats what I have from Belarc...um...

Didn't really know what you needed. Anyway. I keep having "new hardware" that is my multimedia audio controller. I don't know why. What should I do now?

go here to Asus and install the audio driver http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start instructions / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow

Hi, thanks very much for replying! When I do this it just says I have no playback device, and everything else is greyed out so I can't click on them. Except for "MIDI music playback", that says the default device is "MPU-401"

I've tried doing as you said to both Audio Codecs and Legacy Audio Drivers, neither worked. Any other suggestions?

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion
slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

If they are then you need to check that audio is [Enabled] in the BIOS

As soon as the computer boots press the <Delete> key

the Main menu opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...X-X%20Main.JPG

use right arrow key to select Advanced Menu
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...20Advanced.JPG

use down arrow key to select Integrated Peripherals - press Enter key
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...ter%20Perp.JPG

Onboard AC97 Audio Controller should be set to Auto - if not use the down arrow key to select - use the + key to change

Press F10 key to save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load

install audio driver again

Don't forget the Restore Point just in case

need more info, make and model or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Need help too

Hey, I think my drivers got deleted accidentally when I was trying to make space on my hard drive. I've got just about the same as everyone else (exclamation point at the "multimedia audio controller") except my sound card is a crystal 4281.

I tried to install a driver I found online called PW5026, but I'm not sure I installed it right.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates. Then I can see just what your system is, and the audio driver
