you need to check if audio is [Enabled] in the BIOS, your looking for the Audio - can't check the BIOS for the board as unable to get the manual from Epox, so these are a guide as to how the BIOS is set up.

one thing when searching the BIOS, if you want to get out of the Menu or section you are searching and return to a previous menu - use the Esc key.

Award BIOS

to enter BIOS press the <Delete> as soon as the comp boots -
Main Menu opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...ain%20menu.JPG

use arrow key to go to Advanced Menu
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...ced%20Menu.JPG

use arrow key to go to PCI Configuration - Press Enter key
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...figuration.JPG

arrow key to Onboard PCI Devices Control - Press Enter key
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0Control.J PG

Onboard AC97 Audio Controller should be set to [Enabled] if Disabled select and use the + key to change

press F10 key to Save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load

another variation of the BIOS

<Delete> key to Enter - Main Menu Opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...ard%20Main.JPG

arrow key to Integrated Peripherals - Press Enter key
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...eripherals.JPG

SiS OnChip PCI Device - Press Enter key
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...I%20Device.JPG

SiS 7012 audio should be [Enabled] if not, select, then use the + key to change

F10 key to Save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load

install the SiS 7012 audio driver again

Don't forget the Restore Point

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

ah but see i did install the sound program (Realtek AC'97 Audio). its just that when the computer comes up with the window for dectecting new hardware, i follow the steps, and that is where it comes up with the blue screen.
its kinda like trying to connect to the sound card, but the sound card doesnt wat to get connected. >_>

I've just recently reformatted my drive and installed Windows XP. However now I have no sound and my computer doesn't recognize my sound card, in the device manager is shows my multimedia audio controller under other devices with a yellow question mark. I know it still works because both my previous installation of Windows XP and Ubuntu had working sound. I tried installing the drivers but it doesn't seem to have fixed it. Maybe I didn't get the right ones? Anyway my sound card is: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. I can get a Belarc readout if you need more info. Thanks in Advance.

Alright so there's my problem, that wasn't my sound card it was my Ethernet adapter. Trust me for taking to time to read closely.

Help, no sound either.

Hiya, hope you can advise me on what to do. I have a similar problem to what has been mentioned already, I had to reformat the computer and now have no sound. I have checked in system to make sure Windows Audio has not been disabled and also in the BIOS. When you go into sounds and audio device in control panel the volume tab is faded and nothing can be highlighted or accessed. In the audio tab on sound playback it says Default device Modem#0 Line Playback but nothing else is there. In sound recording it says Default device Modem#0 Line Record and on MIDI music playback it says No MIDI Playback Devices and that is faded so can't be highlighted.

The Belarc report says :

System Model
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Packard Bell NEC P842017701
Main Circuit Board b
2.80 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Board: NEC COMPUTERS INTERNATIONAL GA-8SIMLNF 1.0
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 1.0y 01/31/2004
Multimedia
SigmaTel C-Major Audio
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device.

I'll be greatful for any advice anyone can give me as i'm pulling my hair out now and I need my music.
