Didn't work. My sound card is Audigy 2. Model No. emu10k2. But every time I try to get a driver for it, my computer says "Sound card cannot be found." or something along those lines.

Edit: After 10 driver downloads I found the one I was looking for. http://support.creative.com/download...ownloadId=9497

OK, That gets me part of the way there!!!!! Thanks. It loaded, and I get system sound (audible beeps and music as windows loads) but still no CD sound. Tried a new cable from unit (Sony DDU 1621) but still no sound. Also, the Sound Blaster software will still not load. Still doesn't think that there is an SB card attached. Windows CD player pops up and shows the disc to play. The time counts off like it is playing. Mute is off. Volume is up. I can see the tracks in the browse window. But no sound from the speakers. Any more ideas? You've been a great help. THANK YOU!! Jim.

wrong link, you have a sound card go here http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspx

it's the Audigy 2 and 4 series 02.09.0016

be aware SP3 could cause a problem

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a
Restore point and follow instructions

check this to see if it is the default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

This just ads to the confusion about this problem It says Sound Blaster 24 bit. But yet the software doesn't see a Sound Blaster card in the computer. I'm thinking more and more it's a dead card. Or it's something very very simple that is just not loading. If so, your idea of having me check the simple things is probably on the right track. Thanks! Jim.

try installing this way, by making it use the driver, you will need to know where the driver files are unzipped, use the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

I followed as close as I could. Win 2000 pro is a little different is some areas. I had to go to the hardware devices and find it from there. But no yellow question marks. It showed that there was a working driver there. I did go ahead and replace it the way you said. And under the Sound, video and game controllers section, it shows : Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Sound Blaster Line! 24-bit, and Video Codecs. No question marks at all. But a disc has been playing the whole time I've been typing this, and no sound from the speakers, except when it "donged" to let me know that this particular album is not on the internet to download the song titles. But the fact that the warning noise come through to the amplified speakers hooked up to the sound card, but no music, just seems wierd to me. Is it coming through the IDE cable, and the music is just not getting through the audio cable? I have tried another audio cable just in case. And it worked on the other card before. I think I'll hook up the old Sony CD burner and see what happens with it. Thanks again! Jim.
