Thanks for Responding so fast bookworm.

Do you really think its necessary to install this driver: Description Intel 845G INF first? What would happen if i just tried the second one first?

Yes you can just install the Audio driver and see if it works, if it does'nt then get the INF driver ( this is the Chipset driver for Intel boards ) look at this from Intel on what the file does
* 1. OVERVIEW
************************************************** **********
The Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility installs
Windows* INF files to the target system. These files outline
to the operating system how to configure the Intel(R) chipset
components in order to ensure that the following features
function properly:

- Core PCI and ISAPNP Services
- PCIe Support
- IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support
- SATA Storage Support
- USB Support
- Identification of Intel(R) Chipset Components in
the Device Manager

Hope this helps

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

It's a ASUS P4V800

Go here to ASUS http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

Top left under Input Model to Search - input P4V800 / select P4V800-X / Drivers tab / your SoundMax driver is there

Hope this helps

I need the make and model or the serial number, look for a sticker on the notebook, it does appear to be a Clevo, but it is not giveing the motherboard maker. Try Everest http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

Computer / Summary it may give more information.

Hope this helps

no-sound problem

Hi Barbara -- you appear to be something of an online godess so hopefully you can fix my lack of sound too. I'll buy you a hotpot if you can!

My (Windows XP home) laptop's stopped playing sounds, and in device manager it's got the yellow exclamation mark of doom next to the Multimedia Audio Controller.

I think I have the right disc to reinstall the drivers... it certainly starts doing something. It says it's found drivers for the Realtek AC'97 and starts transfering files. Everything seems to go well and the green progress bar apparently reaches 100% (the last thing I can catch it transfering is audio3d.dll to c\windows\system32) but then it says:

There was a problem installing this hardware:
Multimedia Audio Controller

An error occurred during the installation of this device.
Access is denied.

It only then allows me to close the wizard. Any ideas?! Thanks a lot in advance.

Cheers,
Tom

Exclamation Experiencing same problem

I had to reinstall Winxp (clean install) and I am now faced with no sound. I have installed Chipset Driver and it recognizes that I have an smbus controller. I start install of new device found (multimedia audio controller) and it freezes up when it tries to install soundmax drivers. I restart and it will not boot pass Winxp Knightrider screen (lol). I have to reboot and enter safe mode so I can uninstall soundmax and then disable Bios integrated sound in order to boot up.

OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Main Circuit Board: Board: Dell Computer Corp. 0F5949 A01
Serial Number: ..CN7082154260OI.
Bus Clock: 400 megahertz
BIOS: Dell Computer Corporation A05 12/02/2003

Display: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller [Display adapter]

Multimedia None detected (because I have integrated sound disabled)

Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

Both SMBUS controller and Soundmax integrated digital audio are using the same IRQ (IRQ3). I am now logged on with integrated sound enabled but soundmax integrated digital audio disabled within my device manager.

I have downloaded Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio and Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility from Dell.com. I am currently out of waranty and without a paddle.

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case

Then go here to Clevo, your model D410 has two versions but the driver for each is the same http://www.clevo.com.tw/download/ftp...=3&submit=+GO+

Hope this helps
