you need to check if audio is [Enabled] in the BIOS, the manual does not show all the screens but it will be similar to this one, you ar looking for the AC97 audio

as soon as the comp boots press the <Del> key and the Main menu will open
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...ard%20Main.JPG

use down arrow to select Intergrated Peripherals - press Enter
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...eripherals.JPG

now this menu may have the AC97 audio or the onbpard audio listed or you may need to go to the On Chip PCI device - press Enter
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...I%20Device.JPG

if audio is [Disable] use arrow key to highlight - then use the + key to change

press F10 ket to Exit & save

y key to accept changes

If you need to Exit the BIOS at any time press the Esc key

install audio driver again

check this to see if realtek is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

Hi Bookworm,

I've tried what you told me and windows audio service was set as automatic.

To give you some background of how this problem came about, my hardrive died on me a while ago so my friend sold me his motherboard. I installed it with his old hard drive and i've never had any sound since.

Thanks for helping me tonight. I'm in the UK as well so i understand that it's late, i'll check the forum again tomorrow.

are you audio plugs on the I/O plate or in an expansion slot - see here
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

if in an expansion slot get Everst and post the Computer / Summary section - leave all the DeBud - PCI section out
