If I try to play a sound file or movie it wont play because I get a sound error (In windows media player I get this error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.").

When I run the diagnostics (before windows loads), it plays a song to test the system speakers. But thats before windows loads. The test tests the speakers without windows or drivers. If sound is heard, the sound card is okay and the speakers are okay. Thats how I know its a software issue and not a hardware issue. But once windows loads, I have no sound. No sound device. The only sound I get is a beep from the motherboards internal speaker.

When I goto control panel > sound and audio devices > hardware tab, it lists the Sigmatel device, but the device properties says:

Manufacturer: Sigmatel
Location: PCI Bus 0, device 31, function 5
Device status: This device vannot start (code 10)

Ive tried uninstalling the device, reinstalling drivers I just downloaded from dell.com, rebooting, system restore, and nothing works.

Still no sound. Any other ideas?

This is for the onboard audio offered by Acer, http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...d=3394#results
Select Product Line / Desktop / Veriton 5600G / and type Audio / search
have you installed a sound card by any chance, or downloaded other drivers

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Hope this helps

Can you get the serial number for your Fujitsu Siemens, it will be on the back of the tower.

So this Sigmatel audio problem has been found to be some great mystery that cant be solved by anyone on the planet? Ive tried umpteen million things and the sound works some days, otehrs it doesnt. Mostly it doesnt.

Amazing that we can put a man on the moon but we cant figure out how to get a device working on a laptop.

Ill offer $100 to anyone who can figure out how to fix this. And Im not talking about uninstalling/reinstalling, downloading/installing new drivers/chipsets from manufacturers website, using add hardware wizard, rolling back drivers, or any of those things that do absoloutely nothing. I want a hard fix. SOmething that works.

Maybe I need to talk to Bill Gates.

This is the link to your Fujitsu Siemens drivers http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/support/downloads.html just key in your serial number.

Set a System Restore before installing driver just in case

Your audio is a Realtek AC'97, get the most up to date driver here http://w3serv.realtek.com.tw/downloa...&Software=True

the site can be slow to download

Hope this helps

may give more information

Cheers
