Lost sound :(

Ok so i have a custom built PC, and recently its been losing a lot of hard drive space, i found out that windows xp gets a lot of security updates which are not needed and take up space, so i carried onto delete them, i also deleted a few other things i thought i didnt need and in the process accidentally made me lose sound.

I have a similar problem to other people in this thread, i have a question mark over Multimedia Audio Controller, and i have looked around to see if i have a cd for it but cant find it, im not exactly sure where i find all the little details about my pc, but heres all the info i can give for now.

Microsoft Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon(tm) 1.10 Ghz, 512 MB RAM

Multimedia Audo Controller is under Other Devices, and my sound controllers are:

Audio Codecs
C-Media AC97 Audio Device (Has a question mark on it too)
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device
Standard Game Port
Vdieo Codecs

I am not sure what other information i would need to post and how to get it, if anyone can help me get my sound back ill be eternally grateful

Look here at HP http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...cname=bph07154

Step 4 - Enable Windows Audio service

access to Windows Audio Service can also be done this way

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

Step 7 - On-board audio BIOS

The I/O plate means you have onboard audio so that is the driver you need

an expansion slot means you have a sound card installled and need the driver for one of the sound cards listed.

if you are not sure if you have a sound card installed Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section.
