Hi, new here, wonder if you tekkie lads could help me out with something.

Like the novice I am I decided I needed to install new drivers to make the copy of GTA 4 which I torrented run better, any way I downloaded a program called Driver Genius. It suggested I take two new audio drivers, which I blinly installed, they are thus:

SigmaTel High definition audio codec
Hauppuage WinTv PVR Pci II (26xxx)

I installed these, now there's no audio.

These are my other Audio hardware devices:

Audio codecs
Legacy audio drivers
Media control devices
Legacy Video capture devices
Video Codecs
Bluetooth Audio
Bluetooth High Quality Audio

I'm running Windows Xp, obviously, here's my specs:

Dell Dimension 9200 Dxp061
Intel Core tm 2 Cpu
6600@2.40ghz
2.39ghz, 2GB ram

I've tried getting rid of them through the device manager thingy but the bastards keep reappearing as new hardware found, everytime I try this. I've tried rolling back all my drivers but no dice. If there's a conflcit how do I solve it?

I have backed up my old drivers, but I have no idea how to reinstall them. Overwrite these new ones.

It has been suggested to me that I delete/disable all my drivers and reinstall them off the installation CD which I got with the computer. Would that work?

Advice would be much appreciated.

My full specs:

check this to see if Soundmax is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device
