Soundmax is your audio, Are your audio plugs on the I/O plate or in an Expansion slot – see here – click image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

these drivers are onboard, you must plug your audio into the I/O plate

if still no audio get the driver from Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC

Click I Accept – wait for site to reload – click Next

Download the (Executable) file – save to desktop – double click downloaded file and follow installation instructions.

you need to check the BIOS

to enter BIOS hit the Del key as soon as the comp boots
the Main Menu opens http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...IOS%20Main.JPG

use down arrow to select Intergrated Peripherals - press Enter key

look for the audio, it will most likley say AC97 audio - it should be set to Auto or Enabled

if Disabled use the arrow key to select

then the + key to change

use F10 key to Save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load,

then if needed install the audio driver again, the one from MSI

I tried Bio settings and my audio was already set to auto already, still nothing. I wished I could some way have you to look at my computer because its probably something right in my face that I can't see but I tried everything, I recently started up realtek which told me that the eq failed so then it booted up. I got a little curious and tried to mess with the volume control and when I did, I got this error message.
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to control panel, click printer and other hardware, and then click add hardware. This program will now close. I tried adding hardware and when I do thats when my computer crash.

according to the motherboard you have soundmax audio, Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section. Lets have a look at what it shows, the other way is to pop the side off the comp and look at the motherboard. What make and model of comp do you have ?
