Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section. Lets see what audio you have

just wanted to let you know I figured the problem out... what caught my eye was that there were 3 yellow markers after this happened in Device Manager... the 1394-Firewire had a yellow exclamation point whereas the Mutimedia Audio Controller had a yellow question mark... so I guessed that it had to be the missing Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card that also had the 1394 slot in it and that originally came with my Gateway PC.. it was missing .. and that occurred right after I did the regular--Tuesday's-- MS Windows Updates after I rebooted..

I went out and purchased another sound card just in case..never got to use it... what I did to correct the problem.. I physically removed--uninstalled the Creative SB sound card.. rebooted.. then shut down and re-installed it with an updated driver.. after that reboot .. I checked the Device Mgr and the 1394 showed up as it was--no yellow exclamation point..... along with the Creative SB card as well...

I then went into Control Panel--Sounds and Audio Devices-- under the AUDIO tab.. placed the Creative SB Audio 2 as the default in all three places--Sound Playback --Sound Recording --Midi... went to the Volume tab.. and checked --Place volume icon in the Taskbar... and everything was back to normal to where it was and now is

I just want to thank you for all the assistance and getting back to my problem-question so fast.. many many thanx... you do a great service on this board. appreciate the help

thanx again..

this is the onboard audio from Lenovo http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...&validate=true

but it looks as if you have a Creative sound card

this driver will only work if your audio plugs are on the I/O plate – see example here – click image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

if your audio sockets are in an expansion slot then you have a sound card installed, and will need to know which one Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section. It should show the sound card
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

I feel like something of a muppet for not finding the European Toshiba site. Thank you ever so much for your invaluable time and perfect advice. I join the recurring sentiment here in describing you as a total legend.

Thanks!

Thanks!

no need to feel that way, you have to dance all over the globe to find Toshiba drivers, same machines, different model names, crazy I know, but a least they do provide drivers, not like some I could mention, but where there's a will there's a way. Happy listening
