Success at last! (No thanks to me)

I finally have some free time again and saw your update for me. I feel good and kind of stupid at the same time. I went into the BIOS and saw Audio was Enabled (as you thought maybe it was turned off).

That seemed like bad news since I figured I was back where I started from. I re-read the instructions that came with the driver. It kept talking about putting in the CD if it asked. I don't have one. I figured this MUST be the correct driver, but I was missing a piece of the puzzle.

For some reason my feeble brain began to think how can I tell it exactly where the driver is...what does it look like? I had already tried directing it to it on the PC and failed earlier on. The folders I tried it would not link to originally. I wasn't thinking it through enough!!!!!

I searched for the folder and looked at what was in each sub-folder and then it hit me which folder must be the one and to steer it directly to that folder and let it find it itself!!!

AAAAGGGGGHH!!! I feel so stupid!! I wish I had learned computer stuff when I was younger (or wasn't already 54 now) and some things would be more second nature.

It finally found the driver in the subfolder after I figured it MUST be in:

C:\cabs\Soundmax5240\smaxwdm\w2k_xp

Since one must be for WIN98SE (se) and the other was the one I needed for XP. So it probably would have already been working if some instructions with the driver had just been clearer that I could do it that way (since I had no CD).

Then I was still getting no sound, but I plugged in headphones in another audio jack and they worked! So, I plugged the PC speakers into that one and we have sound again!!

Thank you for finding the proper driver and for ALL of your help. I feel like I just made it more complicated than it had to be. I hope someone else may read this and learn from my experience. I'm sure if my brother-in-law had been standing here it would have been a snap for him (or you). So frustrating, but better late than never. Doh!!!

Bless you for what you are doing!!!

You said too download the original player but the only thing on this website is the update. Guess I'm out of luck.

HP drivers http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...o duct=412541

first check this to see if Realtek is defaukt audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

if not go to HP link and under Original drivers first install the Chipset drivers - then RESTART your comp

then install the Original Realtek audio driver, not the update

this driver will only work if your audio plugs are one the I/O plate – see here – click image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

Set a System Restore Point before installing EACH driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

Multimedia Audio Controller

I have read through this section and I need the help of the AudioQueen.

I have a yellow exclamation mark next to multimedia audio controller hence no sound.

I have no application disk and the supplier: Medion, cannot furnish me with their application disk.

They have advised that the Cybercom S5 Pc has a MED 5000 Socket 478 Motherboard they think made by MSI.

This means nothing to me.

Audioqueen can you help source the audio drivers etc that I need.

thanks

Keith (UK)

When I try too install it a message comes up saying "The original drivers are stored in the C:\HP\Drivers\Audio folder. Please install the driver through the Device Manager"

Not really sure what it's asking me too do.

Also, when you talked about the playback part, it just says No Playback Devices and it's grayed out so I can't select anything.

No audio device - multimedia none detected

I have a desktop (bought on eBay) which is running fine, but has no sound. I ran the Belarc analysis and here's what it found:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
System Model: OIMERP

Main Circuit Board:
Board: Intel Corporation D865GLC AAC28906-408
Serial Number: ABLC41729852
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Intel Corp. BF86510A.86A.0060.P16.0404121116 04/12/2004

Multimedia: None detected

I have been struggling with this for about 10 hours without success. Are you able to tell me with the info above where I can get the right driver?

I bought an external sound card on eBay - hoping that might work (but I don't have it yet to try out). This is very discouraging.

Just thought of more to say

First, I would be grateful for any help. You are a computer genius!

I have none of the disks or anything for the original setup.

I realized after reading some of the early pages, that you might need this

Main Circuit Board:
Board: Intel Corporation D865GLC AAC28906-408
Serial Number: ABLC41729852
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Intel Corp. BF86510A.86A.0060.P16.0404121116 04/12/2004

Is there any hope for this machine?

this is what it means
go to Device manager
right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager/Sound, video and game controllers

1. Expand or select the problem driver
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device or problem driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver, this will be the path to C:\HP\Drivers\Audio folder
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions
