Multimedia Audio Controller issues as well

Hey guys, I'm so glad forums like this exist cuz I'm having issues similar to the ones described throughout this thread and hopefully someone here can help me out. In device manager, all devices under sound, video, and game controllers appear to be working properly. Under other devices, the multimedia audio controller has a yellow exclamation point and properties says the drivers aren't installed and when I select "reinstall driver" the hardware wizard tells me it can't locate the software. I've used the gateway site to update the chipset and then install the soundmax driver (using the serial number lookup function) but apparently I'm not doing something correctly because that hasn't worked. I'm including my belarc report and motherboard info. I apologize if it's redundant info.

this is the right driver - the first I linked to http://cr.am/framed.php?url=http%3A%...ef=driverguide

can you check this

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device
