Check a couple of things, in Device Manager are there any yellow ? or ! shown. In Control panel / Add/Remove programes is SoundMax or ADI 198x shown. still in Control panel / Sound and Audio Devices / hardware tab / is SoundMax shown - if so highlight / Properties / General tab - at bottom Device usage:- is use this device(enable) shown / Properties tab / look at each Audio- Midi devices- Mixer devices - do they all show SoundMax / Driver tab / does it show SoundMAX.

Do you know the make and model of your computer.

Hope this helps

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case

Your right it is a Compac Presario D230, it came up before but was a little thrown because it is a business computer. go here to Compac and get the SoundMax audio driver http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...oad/19444.html

Hope this helps

On seeing it's properties it says that "The drivers for this device are not installed.(code 28)". In the driver details information for this also i don't see driver date, version etc. Whereas in sound devices in the device manager I see that the audio driver or "Crystal SoundFusion(tm) CS4281 WDM Audio" is working fine
(which i came to know from seeing it's properties). So the problem perhaps lies only with Multimedia Audio Controller not with sound drivers.
My PC is HP Pavillion 8650 Desktop PC. I have Microsoft XP on it.

Please help me . I have been trying to resolve this problem for 15 days but no luck.searched internet for many drivers and installed quiet a few of them but no result.

Nothing from HP on an audio driver, can you get Belarc (free) copy and paste the report to see if it will give more information
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

hope this helps

Everything worked just fine yesterday, I noticed to my surprise though that when opening the volume icon in the task bar I could do more than before, like I was able to add several volume adjustment meters for all speakers, left, right, rear, subwoofer, center etc. I have never been able to do this before and i have no idea how it happened that this was added.

I installed the new Itunes the same morning but does not see how this could affect the volume adjustments.

Today thoughh when starting my computer I getthis problem with the installation of Hardware and no software to be found, a big yellow question mark...you know. I have tried to restore my PC to before I installed the new iTunes, didn't help

I have a Compac Presario 8693, I went to HP site and downloaded the Realtek AC 97 update, I went to the sites recommended here and downloaded the Realtek installation file. I did run the application files and rebooted the PC several times but the only thing that happens is that the installation program tells me that I have two options, search on Internet or on a spefic place on the PC. I do not kow where the drivers mighthave been installed so I opt for start searching on internet and the installation program keeps going for several minutes before it simply says that now software was found. What to do now?

I have seen you helping several blocs and put my hope that you can give me support also. No musik anymore, no microphone... nothing works

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

First go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21
No1: Inf Update Utility / download and save to Desktop / to install double click downloaded file on desktop / when installation finished RESTART comp.

Second go here to Realtek to get the ALC655 audio driver http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True
download the (Excution file) save to Desktop / to install double click downloaded file on Desktop

OMFG I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In an act of desperation i trawled through google looking for the answer to my problem and suddenly in front of me was the answer. http://www.driverpacks.net/DriverPac...Pack.php?pag=s

With the driver packs and the information i gathered from Bookworm (to whom i am eternally gratefull) I figured out what driver to install. Now thank fully it works. I recomend the driver packs to any one in desperate need having tried all other options. This though is not for the faint hearted and i take no responsibility for the consequences of your use of the drivers.

And again thank you bookworm for all your help!!!
