Anything specific I could look for...? Have checked, there are unfortunately no serials or anything on my tower....
Check Device Manager / System Devices / is the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator installed ok, if it is then back to ASUS and update the chipset driver it's the SiS Mine IDE driver, after installation RESTART your comp.Reinstall sound driver.

Hope this helps

Hi bookworm, I have already tried this one. It's not solving the problem. I ran the setup and restarted PC but still no sound and still see Multimedia audio controller as marked with yellow ? and !. also i have tried many other drivers given from HP support but none helped. Let me know if there is anything we can do otherwise i was planning to change the sound card.

thanks
Pavan

Lots ao motherboard makers use the SiS 650 chipset, what make and model is your computer, can you also get Everest ( free ) copy and paste the My Computer /Summary of the report, it may give clues to the motherboard.

I have problem with my audio setup in WinXP Pro. I can play games, media player (music, video) with sounds, but not when using internet explorer watching streaming media (such as from YouTube).
I tried to reinstall my audio driver (and also update with the latest one, WDM_A390) but didn't help.

Here's what I notice in Control Panel - Sounds And Audio Devices:
- Under the Volume tab, I checked the Place volume icon on taskbar. But it never show up.
- Under Sounds tab, the small Play button at the bottom is grayed.
- Under Audio tab, the Sound Playback and recording are set to my sound device (Realtek Audio'97).
- However the MIDI playback is empty. I tried to set it to Microsoft GS Wavetable. But it is empty again the next time i open the window.
- Under Voice tab, the Voice Playback device is also empty. I also tried to set it to Realtek Audio but it become empty again.
- I also click on the Test Hardware button, but no sound coming out.
- Under Hardware tab, I notice there are two Audio Codecs on the list. Usually it's only one. Is there anyway to combine it? Could it be the source of the problem?

Thanks for the big helps.

Can you give me the make and model of your comp, or get Belarc and copy and paste the report, but not the Software License section http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
