SoundMax is the ADI 198x onboard sound, the others PCI sound cards. The onboard sound needs to be disabled so that the sound card works, Also you have an Intel board, Intel advice to update the Chipset before installing any driver.

Check Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Audio Tab / Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio device is selected; something like modem line 0 playback might have been substituted for the proper audio device. Information by Jim Pivonka.

check that your PCI sound card is selected

Hope this help

Hi I tried to reinstall the chipset, no help.

My Onbound Integrated Soundcard is turned on, no sound. Turned off, no music will even play because there is no soundcard associated with anything.

The weird part is, why is that my newly bought Audigy SE is not even detected by my computer?

Try removing the sound card, and reinserting in another PCI slot, go to Device manager, View tab / Show hidden devices, under System is the Plug and play software enumerator showing.
