I need help!!!

Hi. I noticed this thread had a title that seemed to apply to my problem. 2 days ago, I lost the sound in my computer. I turned it on in the morning and tried to listen to a song in Windows Media Player. However, it refused, and now, I am left with no sound. No sound at all. No music, no log-in sound, no dings or alerts, nothing. The speakers are plugged in, and on, and even when I try to open the volume panel, and it says no active mixer devices available. Please help me, I NEED sound.

What categories do I need to post from Belarc? Please reply!

looked at the printout, it shows you have C-Media Realtek ALC650(correct according to your board) and SiS 7012. 3 Audio Adapters when there should be one. Go to Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices / Check Volume, Audio, Hardware tabs, they should all show Realtek AC'97 as your audio device.

What did your friend do with your HD, did he have the same motherboard as you, the same chipet, OS did he alter anything that you know of.

Let me know.

ok...

I downloaded it and unzipped all the files to C:\DOCUME~1\X\LOCALS~1\Temp. However, nothing has changed. 98 files were extracted to that file. When I opened it, I saw alot of files, and the folder is taking up 3.33 GB of my computer. I only have 340 MB left, so I'm wondering what I can get rid of. However, the sound still isn't fixed and I don't know where to go from here.

the file contains all sound drivers for SoundMax, but will only take a little space on your comp, it will not install all those files, just the ones you need. After installation you can delete that Temp Folder.

Go to where the Temp folder where the files are, the file you want is setup

Setup
Installshield(R) Setup launcher
Installshield Software Corp

double click that file and the SoundMax installer will launch, all you do is follow the instructions.

After installation delete the Temp folder where they were extracted to.

Hope this helps

Thanks.

Their are too many files to go through in my temp folder. There are probably over a thousand. I am going to delete the file now, and re-extreact the files from the download you gave me to a different folder. From there, I will follow your instructions.

Well

It doesn't work. The temp file is supposedly in use, so I extracted the files to another folder. I cannot find any files or folders with the name that you provided. I tried the set up, and it turned out to be soundmax. I tried it, and it asks for drivers like ksuser.dll...drivers I installed for my webcam. I had most but eventually, it said I needed an update for win98 and 2000...I'm confused, I am running XP. My sister has to use the computer now but I will be back on. PLEAE RESPOND, Sound is really important and I am trying everything I can. Thanks alot bookworm, I appreciate that you are trying to help me.

I'll be right back.

Ok, make your own folder thats what I do, one for the zipped file and another for the unzipped files'

Cheers
