Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

It a Realtek AC'97 sound driver you need, go here to Realtek
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

download the (EXcution file) save to desktop, double click to install.

The site is slow

Hope this helps

Check your onboard sound, the radio jacks will be near your mouse and keyboard sockets, your sound card will be lower down the tower. You should have 2 sets.

The onboard sound is Realtek AC'97 http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

you have not shown enough of the Belarc report so I can check if onboard sound is installed, or your sound card. If you have both to use the sound card onboard sound should be disabled.

Hope this helps

yellow question mark on multimedia controller

bookworm,hi.
ive been trying to figure out solution/s on this prob i have with my laptop recently. well, three days ago i went over at my add/remove programs to delete programs tp clean up space. ive accidentally deleted Realteck AC'97, among others. and proceed to empty my recycle bin.
well, the next time id tried to play music in my windows player, it would always say "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." i tried reinstalling it over at the device manager (and where my multimedia controller got a big yellow question mark on it), but it would always look for a cd-rom to plug-in..and you see, i dont have one since Acer got an eRecovery. im frustrated of looking and downloading..and trying to fix it on my own.

here's my laptop's info:

Acer Aspire 5500Z
Operating System System Model
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600) Acer Aspire 5500Z
Processor a Main Circuit Board b
1.73 gigahertz Intel Pentium M
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Acer V2.80 02/27/2006
Drives Memory Modules c,d
55.80 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
44.24 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

please help, been sleepless lately trying to fix this prob. thanks a million.

Then go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

download No:6 INTEL Chipset Software Installation Utility save to desktop, double click to install then RESTART your computer.

Had a word on another site, and the answer was update the chipset, this tells the operating system which Win Inf files to load

Hope this helps
