Do you have Winzip installed to unzip files, because this is a zip file, it's Crystal CS4299 get it here http://members.driverguide.com/drive...driverid=77149

download, save to desktop, double click to unzip, save where you can find, you will find a file Setup-Installshield(R) Setup launcher, double click and the Via AC'97 will open, follow onscreen prompts to install.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Hope this helps

I downloaded it and everything was successful, and I saw two icons Soundman and Avrack. I tried them both but nothing really happened and it said on my hardware that Via AC'97 was installed, but it couldn't start and I tried reinstalling and updating but no change

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected.Typically the problem will be thay something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

Hope this helps

You may have Win system files missing try a System File Check
Go to Run / type "sfc /scannow" ( without the quotes and note the space after sfc) have your Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. It will just run then close when finished. This seems to be a common problem and I'm still hunting for a solution

Cheers

BOOKWORM! I FIXED IT. THANK GOD.

I am not exactly sure what I did, but I know I downloaded almost everything you recommended everyone else until it worked, just today, at 11:02 pm...I am SO EXCITED. Although I fixed it in the end, I could have NEVER done anything without you helping me. I knew nothing about drivers and such (audio drivers anyway) lol and I am so thankful that you tried your best to help me, and succeeded in helping me. The sound of the music from my speakers is SO OVER-WHELMING RIGHT NOW! TOO LONG I had no music. I can thank you OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Thank you!!!!
