now the driver won't install ;_; i unzipped the driver which is cmedia_audio_v039 into drive C. when i click the .exe it goes through the installation and then it says waiting for Audio driver to be ready. then windows xp opens up the found new hardware wizard and i hit install driver automatically and it says can't install hardware b/c can' find the driver. so i tried going back and picking the folder the .exe was in and the OK button to choose it as a search area wouldn't light up. i'm stuck is this really my audio driver? or did i jump the gun and this isn't the one

Great, glad to hear it ( excuse the pun ) now if you could post how you did it lots of people would be very grateful. This C-Media causes so many problems when installing and I myself would appreciate it very much for future reference.

Cheers

basically when you unzipped the file it added a folder in C drive with the .exe file in it. i ran it and it went to a screen where it looks like its installing the driver, well technically it is and it's not, you see it gets to 94% completion then stops, saying its waiting for the driver to be ready. here's the tricky part ^^ b/c windows opens up the add hardware window saying its found a new hardware, but if you hit to install the driver automatic windows won't find it. what you have to do is in the add hardware wizard in control panel, you have to hit Yes i already have the hardware connected, then on the next page hit the Multimedia Audio Controller icon with the big yellow ? on it. now here's the part where it will say if you want to automatically install the driver or choose a location or pick don't do anything i will install the driver myself. you hit that one on the bottom. on the next page will be a list of companies and there drivers. in that list will be the company from your codec that was waiting at 94% ^^ all you do then is hit it and click install and it will finish by installing the driver and you just restart and your done =) just remember you have to choose you want to manually install the driver, windows won't find it on its on, you have to physically choose it from the company list b/c the program adds it to the list when it hangs at 94% any more questions let me know i'll try to better explain it

If you say you have no sound, lets see. Go: control panel, sounds+ audio devices, sounds, progran event. Click one of the sound types to hi-lite it. Left click the triangle, if it turns to a square, you have sound. Look at your speakers. If the triangle stays then drivers or card are the problem. DRIVERS .... go to control panel, system, hadware, device manager. Pick the sound device and expand it. right click the sound device (example-- creative) and left click update driver. If that doesn't work go back and uninstall. Then go to control panel and "add hardware" If that doesn't work you will have to use a cd or find drivers on line. Good luck Lenny

Re:

I recently lost the sound on my computer and when I checked the device manager, under Other Devices, Multimedia Audio Controller had a big yellow question mark in front of it and it says "the drivers for this device are not installed." I have no idea what drivers I need to install, or where I can even find them. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

This is the link to Toshiba Australia listing all available drivers for your comp
http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au/71/liv...50137&x=11&y=4
your Audio is a Realtek ALC250D

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

Hope this helps

Re:

Komodo25 & bookworm,

Thank you very much for your help. I was completely lost before I found this forum since I'm not very good when it comes to fixing problems with computers, but I was able to download the driver and restore the sound. Everything is back to normal now. Thanks again!
