still problems

I tried to install the chipset driver but i got a messege saying that the ikernel.exe could not be installed because the system cannot find the file. Also I don't know why it thinks it's a dell dimension anyway; it's not anymore.

The card you have is an OEM Dell from Creative. The card is recognised as such. That's why normal Creative drivers don't find it. It has a modified chip and less features I think.
Ikernel is the installer executable.

This is supposed to work: http://soundcard.free-driver-download.com/Creative/11143/Creative-Sound-Blaster-Live!-5.1-Digital-(Dell)-Audio-Card-Driver-Install-Pack-1-For-Windows-2000-XP.html

Then use the link from Bookworm to obtain the update.

Still not right

still not working i tried that you said and an error comes up and says " Setup could not detect any sound blaster card on your system. Please ensure tha your sound blaster hardware is properly installed before running this setup program. Setup will now exit" I think that it can't find the sound care due to the name that it is in device manager.

Multimedia Audio Controller is a generic name used by the system to describe a sound card of some sort that it doesn't recognise.

If you look in the extracted archive, you will see a file "ikernel.ex_" that's the missing file the other installer needs.

If you look in the extracted archive at the file "ms.cab", you can extract it. I believe it contains the root driver.

Try the card in another slot.

Driver from creative: http://us.creative.com/support/downl...Patch_LB_3.exe

I just reinstalled XP and have been having the same problem as every one else here. I've tried looking for the drivers manually but I forgot what mine are. I did the Belarc Advisor and these were my settings:
2.00 gigahertz Intel Celeron
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
128 kilobyte secondary memory cache
128 kilobyte tertiary memory cache

Board: Intel Corporation NBGV - Northwood/Brookdale-G Validation Board
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD 6.00 08/21/2002

Processor a is on top and circuit board b underneath.

if you need more info then I can get it.

Same Issue!! Please Please Help!!

I have the same problem, I have been in search of a remedy and have done everything suggested and everything I know how to do and even stuff I dont know.... I have no sound!! I have the yellow question mark and exclamation mark by the multimedia audio controller, I right click on it and update drivers on all my sound video controllers but it wont update ANYTHING . says it can't be done. Also when browsing pages on myspace if the pages have any kind of plug in required or a audio player, it freezes fire fox and does not respond. AND I have even gotten the blue screen of death and some grey screen with a bunch of technical jargon on it....to boot my system is much slower than normal... I ran spyware blaster, avg, windows defender, they all say nothing is wrong, I have done the system maintenance... WHAT CAN I DO??? WHAT DO I DO??? PLEASE OH PLEASE HELP ME!! I did the bellarc thing and here are the findings....
